Youngest ever participant in ‘Step Change’ raises £1,000 At six years old I became the youngest person ever to run up all 38 floors of London’s iconic ‘Gherkin’ building, after taking part in the NSPCC’s Step Change challenge on 6 March 2010. I joined hundreds of other runners – including my Mum, Katie – to face the challenge of climbing 1,037 steps to the top of 30 St Mary Axe in the City of London – also known as ‘The Gherkin’. This reminded me of being back at primary school when you used to take the class toy on holiday with you – a very simple but brilliant idea! I purchased a bear from the Colchester NSPCC Business Group and showcased a diary of his 'work experience' for 2 weeks. Over 60 local businesses took part and it trended on Essex Twitter feed. It raised a lot of smiles, I loved getting involved and in total the challenge raised just over £2,000 for local projects of the NSPCC.
I have joined my Mum and my teachers in charity collections at football grounds at the weekend; we always challenge each other over whose bucket is the heaviest with donations – and we often raise over £1,000 for the day's efforts! Causes have been for NSPCC, St Helena Hospice and the Tom Bowdidge Foundation.
